Understanding the World

Understanding the World supports children in making sense of their community, their environment and the wider world. In EYFS, children learn about people, places, cultures, technology and the natural world through first-hand experiences, exploration, discussion, stories and enquiry. We encourage children to ask questions, make observations and talk about what they notice, helping them to develop curiosity, knowledge and respect for the world around them. This area lays the foundations for future learning in science, history, geography and beyond.

Intent

Our intent is to nurture children's curiosity and themselves, other people and their community and the wider world. We want children to develop knowledge, ask questions, make connections and explore with interest so that they begin to make sense of the world around them.
