The School Curriculum
Our School Curriculum Intent
Brimscombe C of E Primary aims to provide an inclusive, challenging and real-world curriculum that inspires future thinkers, innovators and problem solvers. We want all our pupils to be ambitious, skilled and confident life-long learners. The well being of our pupils is at the heart of what we do.
Our curriculum runs on a two year cycle. The year starts with a week all about learning and how to make the most out of school. The school year is then split into 3 main topics with the final week of the year used for reflection.
The topics are planned to ensure coverage of skills and knowledge within the National Curriculum. Each subject is planned with a key concept and driving questions for the children to investigate through the topic. Each topic finishes with a celebration of learning for parents and members of the community to come and and share in what the children have learnt.
The school's Values
The schools values for life are very much part of the school curriculum. Regular learning experiences are planned so that the values of; kindness, respect, courage, responsibility and friendship are understood by the children. Each term children do activities based around a value to make the values more tangible.
Skills for learning
Alongside the values for life the school supports five skills for learning. These are referenced and promoted through all learning from youngest to the eldest child. The skills for learning are; aim high, persevere, focus, reflect and collaborate.
School Motto 'Do your best for yourself and each other' is our school motto, which was chosen by the children and stakeholders. It is something we all try our hardest to live by. Our aim, as individuals and collectively, is to do our best in every context and to support each other as much as we can for the common good. This is as true of all staff at the school as well as the children.
The year group topic overviews can be found on the class pages as well as photos and stories about what the children have done.
