Literacy in EYFS begins with developing a love of stories, books, rhymes and meaningful communication. We immerse children in language-rich experiences and introduce early reading and writing through high-quality texts, carefully planned phonics teaching and opportunities to mark make and write for a purpose. Children learn to enjoy books, join in with familiar stories and begin to apply their phonics knowledge in their early reading and writing. Our aim is to give every child the strongest possible foundation as a confident and enthusiastic reader and writer.

Intent

Our intent is to foster a love of stories, books, reading and writing from the very start of children's learning journey. We want children to develop the early phonic knowledge, comprehension and writing skills they need to become confident, enthusiastic and capable readers and writers.
