Brimscombe Early Years
Welcome To The Early Years at Brimscombe Primary School
The Early Years at Brimscombe Primary School consists of a preschool class,The Ladybirds and a Reception class, The Robins.
Brimscombe Preschool is a happy place to start your school life!
At Preschool we offer high quality childcare 8.45-12.00pm Tuesday, Thursday and Friday in our purpose built learning areas. On Monday and Wednesday we offer a full day of activities for our youngest learners. Mrs Singh assumes overall responsibility for preschool as part of the Early Years' Department. Robins reception class and preschool ladybirds share the large preschool room and a smaller reception classroom. The outdoor learning zone has been totally transformed in the past few years and boasts excellent resources. Take a look at our photos and see what fun we're having!
With increased flexibility of staff, indoor and outdoor learning spaces and resources, as well as common themes and daily planned times together, we are offering our youngest children the best possible start at school. Mrs Birchley is our preschool teaching assistant.
Play Learning through play is a big part of the early years experience. Children learn so much through play that it is a very important part of the school day with regular opportunities for structured and unstructured play. We encourage our children to be outside and active as much as we can.
We accept children from 2 years 9 months and take pride in ensuring a smooth transition into The Robin Reception Class as the children start school. Parents can use the 15 hours of government funding towards childcare, with each additional session costing £8.50. We organise nursery funding on your behalf.
Jellytots, held every Friday morning from 9am to 11am is for parents/carers and toddlers. There is plenty of opportunity for the children to play and socialise both indoors and out.
We use the school hall so that we can enjoy the PE apparatus or sing along to the piano! Tea & Coffee is available.
'Provision in the preschool setting is underpinned by very effective arrangements for childcare, which show in the keen focus in childrens' welfare. Children very much enjoy their time in preschool and are well prepared for the next stage of their development'
We recommend you book a visit to see both preschool and the school in action. We look forward to meeting you and your little one. Please call the school administrator, Sam Newman, on 01453 882474 for further information.
Robins Class Robins class has a smaller number of pupils than the other classes at Brimscombe, taught as a single year group within the Early Years' Department (our published admission number is 15 children.) This gives pupils the best start possible, providing a personalised curriculum with a balance of structured play activities, both indoors and out, alongside the development of good basic skills in reading, writing and maths. Hands on learning is a priority for us and there are many opportunities for the children to discover and follow their own interests and strengths. They follow a slightly different timetable to the rest of the school which allow free flow play and lots of outside learning opportunities
Robin's class use two published schemes for teaching phonics.
Letter & Sounds and Jolly Phonics.
Reception children are taught in Robin Class by Mrs Singh
