English

English sits at the heart of our curriculum and underpins learning across all subjects. Our approach is built around three key strands: spoken language, reading and writing.

We place strong emphasis on spoken language so that pupils can learn to express ideas clearly, listen carefully and take part confidently in discussion.

Reading is taught through a structured approach that develops fluency, comprehension and a genuine enjoyment of books.

Writing builds from this foundation, enabling pupils to write with purpose, accuracy and creativity across a range of genres.

Together, these strands help pupils become confident communicators and thoughtful readers and writers.

Communication and Language in Early Years

In our early years, we place communication and language at the heart of children’s learning.

We use the ShREC approach (Share attention, Respond, Expand, Conversation) to support high-quality interactions throughout the day, helping children to become confident communicators through meaningful back-and-forth exchanges.
