Mathematics in the Early Years helps children to develop confidence with number and a secure understanding of mathematical concepts through practical, hands-on experiences. We provide opportunities for children to explore counting, subitising, patterns, shape, space and measure through play, discussion, games and everyday routines. By encouraging children to notice maths in the world around them and talk about their thinking, we help them build strong early mathematical understanding in a way that is engaging, meaningful and enjoyable.
