Eco Council

We have created a new Pupil Eco Council which consists of 10 children from Years 2-6. The children on the council are all dedicated and enthusiastic to promote the school as a serious eco-environment with Mr Poyser assisting them in achieving their goal.
20/1/26
The Eco Council began by introducing roles and responsibilities, ensuring that all pupils understood their part in contributing to the group. Together, they discussed their goals for the year, helping to create a shared sense of purpose. This approach ensured that all members felt welcomed and developed a strong sense of ownership, setting a positive tone for their work ahead.
12/2/26
Pupils focused on evaluating the school environment. Using Eco Council inspection sheets, they carefully reviewed key areas such as classrooms, toilets and the playground. They recorded their findings and created a visual display to share their results with the wider school community. This work helped pupils to develop a clearer understanding of the school’s environmental impact, while also building important skills in observation and data collection. It also enabled them to identify areas for improvement across the school.
3/3/26
The Eco Council turned their attention to waste and recycling. Pupils carried out classroom bin checks, designed recycling posters for each class, and began planning a ‘zero waste’ challenge. These activities supported improvements in recycling accuracy across the school, reduced the amount of general waste in bins, and raised awareness about the impact of single-use plastics.
14/5/26
The Eco Council have also been working closely with the FOBS PTA group to improve biodiversity across the school grounds. Together, they carefully identified areas that would be most suitable for planting new seeds, helping to create spaces that support wildlife and encourage a wider range of plants to grow. Pupils took part in lots of digging and planting, showing great teamwork and enthusiasm throughout. It has been fantastic to see their commitment to making a positive difference to our environment – great work all!
20/5/26
The Eco Council organised a whole-school Zero Waste Challenge Day to promote sustainability. Children brought in lunches aiming for 100% recyclable and 0% waste, encouraging thoughtful choices about packaging.
Pupils also took part in art activities using recyclable materials from home, showcasing creativity and reuse. The day began with a whole-school assembly led by the Eco Council, raising awareness of environmental responsibility.
A positive and engaging event that encouraged pupils to care for the planet.
25/6/26
The Eco Council at Brimscombe Primary were delighted to welcome local District Councillor Gill Thomas to the school. As a passionate advocate for litter reduction and environmental care, Gill shared her enthusiasm for protecting the environment, explaining how she has successfully raised money for environmental projects and how we can all make a difference in our community. As part of Brimscombe’s involvement in the ‘Little Pickers School Network’, the school has received 17 fiction and non-fiction books focused on the environment, along with 10 new litter pickers. Gill also met with the Eco Council, where they discussed the importance of caring for our local area. Inspired by this visit, the Eco Council have agreed to organise regular litter picks and plan a local walk to help keep our community clean and green.
