Computing
'Stay alert and hold firmly to all you believe. Be mighty and full of courage. Let love and kindness be the motivation behind all that you do.'
1 Corinthians 16:13-14
Curriculum
At Brimscombe C of E Primary School, we believe that every child should become a confident, responsible and creative user of technology, whilst reflecting our Christian vision, which encourages courage, curiosity, and compassion. Through our computing curriculum, pupils develop the knowledge and skills needed to navigate an increasingly digital world with courage, curiosity and resilience. We teach children to think logically, solve problems, create digital content and use technology safely and respectfully. Guided by our vision, we encourage pupils to be digitally alert, make positive choices online and use technology with love and kindness towards others.
Teaching
Computing is taught through the Kapow Primary scheme, which provides a progressive and ambitious curriculum. Learning is organised into the key strands of Computing Systems and Networks, Programming, Creating Media, Data Handling and Online Safety. Children build knowledge and skills over time through practical, engaging and purposeful activities that allow them to explore, create and problem-solve. Online safety is woven throughout the curriculum and reinforced across school life. Teachers use assessment opportunities within each unit to identify understanding, address misconceptions and ensure all pupils can succeed and make progress.
Achievement
By the time pupils leave Brimscombe, they are confident digital citizens who can use technology safely, responsibly and creatively. They demonstrate resilience when solving problems, think critically about information they encounter online and understand how technology can positively influence their lives and communities. Pupils leave with secure computing knowledge and skills that prepare them for the next stage of education and equip them to contribute to the wider world with courage, respect, kindness and integrity.
